The road to Nobody Likes a Pity Party was long, chaotic and, at times, gruelling. It took years of work, countless hours of sacrificed sleep and an ambition that continually pushed the project beyond its limits.

That sense of excess runs through the record itself. Diemen Sniep moves between abrasive noise rock, post-punk tension, infectious melodies and more contemplative soundscapes. It is an album built on contrasts, with the band seeking not so much immediate cohesion as the right balance between violence, fragility and an obsession with detail.

Rather than being confined to a single studio, Nobody Likes a Pity Party took shape across numerous locations in Belgium and the Netherlands: IJland Studios, Squid Studio, Chez Saint-Georges, Wood Studio, Kasbah Studios, Sphères Sonores, Koko Records and “Chad’s Studio.” A list almost as endless as the album’s ambitions.

Produced by Maximiliaan de Hoogd, Yannick Lemoine and Jamshid Mahmoudy, mixed by Jamshid Mahmoudy at Kasbah Studios in Maastricht and mastered by Christian Bethge in Germany, Nobody Likes a Pity Party may not be an album for the ages, but it is at least an album that has travelled across the Schengen Area.
